Hi, Many thanks for getting in touch in relation to this issue. I’d like to start by mentioning that my mother spent time in a Mother and Baby home in the 1970s – I’m very familiar with the horrific treatment women – and indeed children – received in these institutions. She was no exception. I believe absolutely that the exclusions mentioned are inappropriate and should be done away with. Everyone who spent time in a Mother and Baby home – regardless of age or duration – should be entitled to redress. Because we’re now in the final days of the election campaign my time is extremely limited, so since receiving your email I haven’t been able to look into this issue in the depth it deserves.
